All the different types of pushchair can be used until a child is about 3 years old, but when you can start using them varies with type and model. You do not have to go for an expensive three-in-one convertible pushchair for your newborn when some forward-facing models have fully reclining seats and are cheaper.
Here's a brief look at the types available.
Buggy
Also called a stroller, this is the most basic, lightweight, foldable pushchair.
Forward-facing
Generally wider and more cushioned than a buggy, with more features.
Two-in- and three-in-one
Two-in-ones can be used as a pram, and as a pushchair.
Three-in-ones can also be used as a carry-cot
Travel system
Fully reclining, mostly forward-facing pushchairs with a separate rear-facing car seat. Both can be used from birth.
Double side-by-side
Two side-by-side seats, usually forward facing, separately adjustable, and usable from birth.
Double tandem
Two side seats, one in front of the other, usually forward facing, separately adjustable, and the rear seat usable from birth.

This stroller is extremely good value, easy to use, practical and comfortable for the kids. The harnesses are good and easy to use, the only thing is it is quite heavy and large. It's easy to control and maneuver, it is great.

I love this stroller, it works great with the maxi cosi car seat and it is so easy to fold/unfold, its small and practical, so pleased I bought it.
Save £20 on this with free delivery. Once again much cheaper than the highly rated store - pramcentreonline which is also known as the Glasgow Pram Centre. Why buy from them when you can save a fortune with our hotdealsuk!

Good compact umbrella folding stroller, 9 April 2009

I bought this to take on holiday as I needed something lightweight and compact. Most strollers are suitable from 6 months, but this is suitable from birth. It has an adjustable leg rest so baby can sit/lie with their legs out straight or a bigger child can have their feet down on the footrest. The seat seems comfortable and is padded. It does not take up much space in the boot when folded, perfect for when the car is full when going on holiday! It has a small shopping basket on the bottom. I use this to store the free rain cover so I can make sure I always have it handy, and it still folds up with the rain cover in it. The basket is a little on the small side, but it is a bonus to have one, as is the hood.
I would not recommend this as your only pushchair/pram for a newborn as it does not lie completly flat, although it almost does, and it does not seem padded enough for a newborn to be in for very long. It does not come with a cosytoes, so bear this in mind. It seems a bit draughty to use without one in the winter so I use the one from my other pushchair. The multi adjustable seat is very easy to adjust and really useful to have. My little one fell asleep on our first outing and stayed asleep even once we were home (for 45 minutes!) and did not stir when I adjusted it so he was lying a little flatter. The handles are comfortable - I am 5ft 9in and find it a good height so I am not having to bend over when pushing. It has a useful carry handle for easier carrying when it is folded, and a sturdy hook to keep it closed. It has a 5 point safety harness. The shoulder straps look like they can be removed and washed, although I haven't tried this yet, as they clip onto the waist straps. It also has "D" rings to attach your own harness or reins. The front swivel wheels are lockable.
Overall it is a great pushchair and just what you need for when your travel system/pram is too big, heavy and bulky, although you have to wake baby to put them into the carseat!
